This festival is celebration on second day of new moon in kartik month according to Hindu calendar. This festival is a symbol of love in the relation of brother and sister. It is known to increase the love and affection of this auspicious relation on earth. On this day brothers and sister used to take bath in a holy river like the Ganga or the Yamuna etc. After taking bath in holy rivers brother go to sister’s house for tilak ceremony. After doing tilak on the forehead of brother, sister put some sweet in brother mouth and brother do also the same. On this day brother do not eat anything until he gets tilak done by her sister and sister also do the same until they perform tilak on their brother’s foreheads. If due to any reason or illness etc, brother unable to go sister’s house and perform the tilak. Actually lord yama, the agent of death went to his sister yamuna’s house on this day yamuna performed tilak to lord yama. From that day it is also known as “Yama Ditya”. It is said that the brother and sister who perform tilak on this day get “Moksh” after death. Mokshy is the place of lord Vishnu.It is mythlogically said that if some body gets “Moksh” he or she will not have to take birth on this earth again.
