Goverdhan Puja Celebration

Goverdhan pooja is one of the main celebrations of this day. Goverdhan Mountain was uplifted by Lord Krishna to save residents of Gokul from havy rains. And since then this day is celebrated as Goverdhan pooja. Goverdhan is the name of a mountain. Still the word separation of this joint word seems to be Go+Vardhan. Means the increase in the number of cows. In olden times cows were kept as pet to fulfill need of milk. And who so ever was heaving more cows was counted to be more wealthfull. Thus for the increase of godhan (walth in the shape of cows), this goverdhan pooja is celebrated by the people who own cattle.
